Artist e Bond, departs Philadelphia March 20, 2010 for a 2-week period of volunteer work at the Lifestart Foundation Workshop. She will be training new members on how to make simple hand-bound journals, which will be the newest edition to the Vietnamese workshop product line.

This will also be an opportunity for e to meet Lieu (pictured to the left). Lieu was e's Memory Portrait recipient from Vietnam. (Memory Portriat: Vietnam).

About the Worskhop...

The non-profit Lifestart Foundation Workshop focuses on creating unique handmade arts/crafts to help support those living in challenging situations in Vietnam. Each item is individually made by members of the workshop and the entire proceeds from the sale of the products go directly to the workshop members to provide a sustainable income and sense of independence.

It all started when a small group of local women living with disabilities in the Hoi An area joined together with Lifestart Foundation to form a special workshop. The group initially met in March 2008 under the direction of Sherry Berger to develop skills to create a small line of unique products. The Workshop is now a fantastic success due to the hard work and determination of these women, as well as the dedicated team of volunteers who have supported the Workshop both from home and during visits to Hoi An. The Workshop has now expanded to new members, of all ages. Read More...

About e...
e
e Bond went to art college in Philadelphia in the mid 90s for graphic design and art history. Since then, she has been a freelance designer, a professor of design, a grad student numerous times over and now, most recently, is serving as web and print designer for an American fashion company. e has always been an artist. It is who she is. But she has also been in love with words and books for as long as she can remember. It has taken many years, but somehow both sides have aligned in her latest venture. roughdrAftbooks is a small, artist-run studio that specializes in handmade books, one of a kind journals and stationery for those like-minded people who love to write, draw and document their world.
